What A Drone Roof Survey Actually Shows You

4 min read

A drone survey looks at your roof in detail without scaffolding or a ladder — what we check, what it costs, and when it's genuinely the right tool.

Most roof inspections are done from a ladder or from the ground, and both have limits. A drone gives you a close look at the whole roof — every slope, every valley and every chimney — which is useful for things a ground view can't show.

What It Shows

  • The full covering — slipped, cracked or missing tiles you can't see from below
  • Ridge, hip and verge condition along the whole line
  • Flashing around chimneys and dormers, close up
  • Valley channels and what's collecting in them
  • Gutters and outlets — what's blocked and how badly

When It's The Right Tool

It's particularly useful for tall or complex roofs, for awkward pitches, and for anything where you want a clear record — buying a house, an insurance claim, or a dispute over whether work was done properly. It's also valuable when the owner doesn't want to pay for scaffolding just to find out whether scaffolding is needed.

What It Can't Do

A drone can't check the loft, can't test whether a tile is loose versus just sitting crooked, and can't see the battens or felt underneath. It's a survey tool, not a replacement for getting on the roof or looking inside the loft when a repair is needed.
