Know Your Roofline

Gutter, Fascia & Soffit — What's What

When we survey your roofline we'll walk you through what we're quoting for in plain English. Here's a quick primer on the three main parts:

Gutter
The channel along the roof edge that catches rainwater and directs it to the downpipe.
Fascia
The vertical board the gutter is fixed to. Replacing rotten fascias is the most common reason a gutter job turns into a bigger one.
Soffit
The underside of the roof overhang. Vented soffits let the loft breathe and help prevent condensation.

Guttering Questions, Answered

How often should gutters be cleaned in Medway?
Twice a year suits most Kent homes — once in late spring after blossom, and again in late autumn once the leaves are down. If you're surrounded by mature trees, three visits a year will save you bigger problems.
How much does gutter cleaning cost?
Most Medway homes fall between £70 and £150 for a full clear, flush and check, depending on property height, gutter length and how blocked they are. You'll get a fixed price before we start.
What's the difference between uPVC, aluminium and cast iron gutters?
uPVC is the cost-effective modern standard and suits most homes. Aluminium is stronger and available in more colours for a sharper finish. Cast iron is the traditional choice for period properties and lasts decades, but costs more.
Do you replace fascias and soffits too?
Yes. If your gutter is sagging because the fascia behind it has rotted, replacing the gutter alone won't fix it. We check the timber at every survey and quote for fascia and soffit replacement where needed.
Can blocked gutters cause roof damage?
Absolutely. Water backing up behind a blockage soaks into the fascia, rots the roof edge and can track into the walls and loft. Clearing them regularly is one of the cheapest ways to protect your roof.
