How We Handle Leadwork

Ask an experienced roofer where leaks come from and lead will come up far more often than tiles. Every junction where the roof meets something else — a chimney, a wall, a dormer, another roof pitch — relies on lead to keep water out, and it's the part of a roof with the least room for error.

Lead has to be dressed to the shape it's covering, not forced over it. That means correct code thickness for the exposure, proper width into both the masonry and the roof covering, and expansion joints where a long run would otherwise tear itself apart as temperature moves it. Rushed leadwork cracks within a few years, usually at the point where it was stretched.

We replace failed flashings, renew valley linings, re-dress lifted or torn lead, and rebuild chimney aprons and back gutters where the old lead has perished.
